Adepticon 2018: Wrap Up and Joe’s Corner
By Joe Lewis
Schaumburg, IL – AdeptiCon has grown consistently over the past sixteen years, from the humble 110 person event in 2002, to the amazing 4,500 attendees AdeptiCon hosted in 2018. Over these sixteen years, AdeptiCon has been held at five different venues. They have expanded from a handful of events to well over 460 tournaments, event games, and hobby seminars covering all aspects of the miniature war gaming hobby.
Over the last seven years, the Crystal Brush painting contest takes place at AdeptiCon. The contest’s sponsor, CoolMiniOrNot, along with its convention host, AdeptiCon, are making the Crystal Brush Awards a global arena for the world’s best miniature artists to display their talent. The entries are works of art. The top three highest scorers in each of the 7 standard categories will receive a Crystal Brush trophy. Each trophy is made of cut lead crystal and tipped with the appropriate place color (gold, silver, or bronze). Gold winners in each category will also receive a cash prize of $200.
The top three overall winners will each receive a cash prize of $10,000, $2,000, and $1,000 respectively. The organizers claim that these are the most valuable awards in the miniature painting world today!

Being one of my must go conventions, this was my 8th. I had the chance to played in both the Team Yankee Tournament and in Flames of War Mid-War Nationals. When it was all over, I had the pleasure to sit down with the Tournament Organizers David Griffin of Battlefront and Chuck Hiner of the Screaming Eagles.
